{"id":718,"date":"2010-09-30T00:53:16","date_gmt":"2010-09-30T04:53:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wizardwalk.com\/newblather\/?p=718"},"modified":"2010-09-30T01:03:10","modified_gmt":"2010-09-30T05:03:10","slug":"legend-of-the-guardians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wizardwalk.com\/newblather\/?p=718","title":{"rendered":"Legend of the Guardians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I saw the animated film <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Legend_of_the_Guardians\">Legend of the Guardians<\/a> the other night.\u00a0 Seeing a movie like that late on a Tuesday night, I had the entire theater to myself!\u00a0 A reminder of what it\u2019ll be like when I\u2019m rich!<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, visually, the movie is one of the most beautiful animated films ever made; the fantasy world with giant trees and mountains is just so&#8230; welcoming.\u00a0 You just want to fall into it.\u00a0 They also did an amazing job with the feathers and fur on the creatures.\u00a0 The character design was also fantastic, and they\u2019ve done something no other animation studio has done (that I can think of); they were able to find this wonderful balance between the stylized and cartoony design, which allow you to read a facial expression on non-human creatures, and realisticity.\u00a0 These animals (mostly owls) don\u2019t look Disney-ified (or Pixar-ified), which leans to the more cartoony side.\u00a0 Yet they definitely don\u2019t look like real owls either.\u00a0 To me, the balance they came up with is just awesome.<\/p>\n<p>And, should you desire to see the movie yourself, I do highly recommend the 3D version.\u00a0 I know a lot of people don\u2019t like paying extra, but to me it\u2019s worth it, it just looks some much richer, more tangible.\u00a0 Some say it\u2019s distracting.\u00a0 Well, you can be just as distracted by any aesthetically beautiful non-story element, so what does that matter?\u00a0 As long as it\u2019s not distracting because it\u2019s awful&#8230; and it\u2019s not!<\/p>\n<p>Oh, some of the action sequences reminded me of the movie 300&#8230; which I suppose makes sense, since these movies were directed by the same guy! \u00a0Zack Snyder. \u00a0He loves those epic action slo-mo closeups. \u00a0Really fun style. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0811583\/\">According to IMDb<\/a>, the director is working on a sequel to 300 called Xerxes. \u00a0I usually don&#8217;t much like the idea of sequels, but I do hope there is a sequel to Legend of the Guardians. \u00a0It seems like there is still more story to tell here&#8230; unfortunately I&#8217;m not sure the film will make enough money to warrant a sequel. \u00a0We&#8217;ll see&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Finally, I loved the 3D animated Looney Tunes short before the film!\u00a0 My only complaint is that it was too short!\u00a0 But I hope they continue the trend, and bring back even more animated shorts before films, even for non-animated films.\u00a0 Pixar has always done it.\u00a0 (Except for Toy Story, I guess.\u00a0 And they sometimes cheated and used shorts they had made in the 80s.)\u00a0 Anyway, film distributors should bring back the tradition!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wizardwalk.com\/newblather\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/owls.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px;\" title=\"owls\" src=\"http:\/\/wizardwalk.com\/newblather\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/owls_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"owls\" width=\"364\" height=\"541\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I saw the animated film Legend of the Guardians the other night.\u00a0 Seeing a movie like that late on a Tuesday night, I had the entire theater to myself!\u00a0 A reminder of what it\u2019ll be like when I\u2019m rich!
