{"id":1654,"date":"2013-03-07T16:58:54","date_gmt":"2013-03-07T20:58:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wizardwalk.com\/newblather\/?p=1654"},"modified":"2013-03-07T17:00:37","modified_gmt":"2013-03-07T21:00:37","slug":"an-annoying-argument-tactic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wizardwalk.com\/newblather\/?p=1654","title":{"rendered":"An annoying argument tactic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s an issue going on in the writing \/ publishing world involving Random House\u2019s e-book imprint Hydra, as mentioned in <a href=\"http:\/\/accrispin.blogspot.com\/2013\/03\/sfwa-de-lists-hydra-random-house.html\">this recent post<\/a> from the Writer Beware Blog.<\/p>\n<p>I have no comment on the issue itself, but on something mentioned in Random House\u2019s open response letter.&#160; They write:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>While we respect your position, you\u2019ll not be surprised to learn that we strongly disagree with it, and wish you had contacted us before you published your posts.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I\u2019ve seen this sort of defense before in the blogosphere.&#160; \u201cYou should\u2019ve talked to me before you said something negative about me!\u201d&#160; No.&#160; Obviously you have every right to defend your opinions, but it is no breach of etiquette for someone else to publish his dissenting opinions without running them by you first.&#160; Your original deeds and writings are what he is publishing an opinion about.&#160; If his opinions seem to be based on a misunderstanding, you can correct him, but it is not his job to run his opinions by you first.<\/p>\n<p>I doubt whoever wrote this letter meant much by this sentence, but this way of thinking bothers me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s an issue going on in the writing \/ publishing world involving Random House\u2019s e-book imprint Hydra, as mentioned in this recent post from the Writer Beware Blog.
