{"id":426,"date":"2009-02-24T00:30:11","date_gmt":"2009-02-24T04:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wizardwalk.com\/newblather\/?p=426"},"modified":"2009-02-24T00:34:26","modified_gmt":"2009-02-24T04:34:26","slug":"reading-and-writing-and-blah-blah-blah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wizardwalk.com\/newblather\/?p=426","title":{"rendered":"Reading and writing and blah blah blah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Been a while again, eh?\u00a0 I submitted my short story, <em>Oberon&#8217;s Paradise<\/em>, to yet another publisher, this time online magazine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strangehorizons.com\/fiction.shtml\">Strange Horizons<\/a>.\u00a0 They publish stories about once a week on their site free for anyone to read.\u00a0 The story&#8217;s been rejected three times so far, but it never hurts to keep trying.\u00a0 I&#8217;m also trying to get back into the habit of critiquing other people&#8217;s work through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.critters.org\/\">Critters<\/a>, a free online writing workshop, and I&#8217;m hoping to put my newer short story, <em>No One Was Abendsen<\/em>, through the critique line.<\/p>\n<p>I also finished another orchestral piece for my album which I call <em>On the Edge of a Dream<\/em>.\u00a0 So far my album is up to a bit over 20 minutes, so I&#8217;m about a third of the way there.\u00a0 One song that will be on the album, <em>White Castle Waltz<\/em>, is already available on <a href=\"http:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/WebObjects\/MZStore.woa\/wa\/viewAlbum?id=305057368&amp;s=143441\">iTunes<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/cdbaby.com\/cd\/sphannifin\">CD Baby<\/a>.\u00a0 I must say, it&#8217;s pretty cool seeing one&#8217;s work on iTunes, even if they&#8217;re not really a selective distributor.<\/p>\n<p>I finished reading Dan Ariely&#8217;s book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/006135323X?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=wizardwalk-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=006135323X\">Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=wizardwalk-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=006135323X\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/>, and I have a few quotes from it to put up on my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wizardwalk.com\/bookquotes\/\">Book Quotes<\/a> blog.\u00a0 It was a very good book, definitely worth a read if you&#8217;re interested in non-fiction.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"The Anvil of the World\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wizardwalk.com\/images\/anvil.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"151\" \/>I also finished reading a fantasy book by Kage Baker called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0765349078?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=wizardwalk-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0765349078\">The Anvil of the World<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=wizardwalk-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0765349078\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/>.\u00a0 It was a short book that came out in 2004, and I think it&#8217;s out of print now.\u00a0 I wanted to read a book by Kage Baker because I had read a few of her short stories and enjoyed her style.\u00a0 It was pretty light reading; the plot never got extremely thick or dark and the world never seemed very complex, but it was still engaging and believable and very humorous.\u00a0 Not a bad read at all.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m still reading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0618517650?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=wizardwalk-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0618517650\">The Lord of the Rings (50th Anniversary Edition)<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=wizardwalk-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0618517650\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/>, a nice all-in-one volume I got for Christmas, but now I&#8217;m also reading T. H.
